Keyword Rich Domain Names to Aid Google Rankings?

In the past, a good strategy for online businesses was to buy a keyword rich domain name instead of brand names because this would help in ranking for that particular keyword.

As a result of the recent Panda algorithm changes, many ‘keyword rich’ domains that were previously ranking for competitive terms, were no longer dominating on search engine result pages. A lot of these websites provided no real user value and in most of the cases had duplicate or syndicated content.

Even Matt Cutts has indicated this point:

So essentially if you are a business brand with a long term vision, it doesn’t really matter what URL name you acquire, because what your rankings will come down to are major factors such as:

1. Unique content
2. Page Authority
3. Domain age
4. Number of inbound links
5. Other basic SEO factors
