The New Widget on Google Maps

The New Widget on Google Maps

Google Maps is now an even better place with the release of an advanced widget to help users better explore the different layers of the Maps interface, such as photos, traffic information and satellite view.

Above, you can see a new widget on the upper right corner that allows you to select from maps, earth or satellite view. The widget icon also shows the different layers accessible through a simple click. My personal favourite is the traffic icon – very useful when you are about to head out, as you would be able to see if there is any traffic so you could take another route or let your friend know that you will be late in advance.

Unfortunately, not all the options are currently available in Australia, such as the ‘Transit’ option, which highlights the public trasport alternatives to get to your destination. We can expect that Google Australia will eventually add the feature, so watch this space for the latest news on further awesome improvements on Google Maps.
