Step 1 - Register a domain name with your top keywords in it. In other words, the keywords that you want to rank highly for. Every little bit helps, and having your keywords in your domain name increases the chances of the search engines favoring your site over other sites.

Step 2 - Insert keywords in your content strategically. By strategically, I mean having a good keyword density in your content of around 2-5%. This means that for every 100 words in your content, 2 to 5 of them should be your keywords. This increases the relevance of your website or webpage with regards to the searched keywords.

Step 3 - Build a ton of backlinks to your site. Without doubt, this is the number one aspect of search engine optimization you need to concentrate on. Even without following the previous two 'rules', as long as you have high-quality backlinks pointing back to your site, you have a competitive edge. Submit your site to Internet directories, post forums to article directories, and make forum posts. Buy backlinks from high PageRank sites if you have to. Do whatever it takes to build your army of backlinks!
