What You Should Know About Search Engines
By Ian Stables
They are very hit and miss. Don't rely on them. In fact I don't need them for my site at all. My site gets lots of traffic and I've no idea where it appears on Google search results.
You see everyone discovers keywords, then linking, then something else to get high in search results. But the truth is the search engines are always changing. I was always following the crowd and at one point my site actually achieved No.3 position. That's if you typed the keywords 'ebay' 'auction' 'description'. But since then, thank goodness, I've got out of the rat race. There's a much better way.
The secret is in this story...
Some of my friends asked me if I wanted to go with them to this new nightclub called BJs. "What's it like?", I said.
Haven't you heard of it?, they said. No. Why?
Everyone's raving on about it. They proceeded to tell me it had this, it did that, they had that and so on.
Then it occurred to me. Everyone knew about it from other people. How quickly the knowledge had spread. What if you could do that on the internet? At first I thought maybe you should make your site so incredible that once someone came to it they would tell everyone else.
Well this does work, but you'd have to have something that's so popular everyone would want to go there. There are sites like this. I discovered them by looking at high ranking sites over at Alexa.com. Sites such as Facebook, Craigslist, etc.
But I could see that to build a site like these I would take a lot of time, money and luck in beating the competition. Which is fierce.
Then I started to discover viral ebooks. Downloadable books that people pass around and in them there's a mention of your website with a clickable link. Free ebooks are a good way. But what's much more effective is resale rights ebooks. Why? When people can make money just by selling an ebook already written they do it with a vengeance. As more people buy them they also start to sell them. If you don't believe me look on eBay. Go to the category 'Everything Else' and search on 'resell' or 'resale' ebook.
They are thousands of them. Lots of the same ebooks being sold by lots of different sellers. That's not all. Next go to eBay shops that sell ebooks. There's so many they certainly didn't write them all themselves. And that's just eBay.
Now I thought all you need to do is write a short ebook that lots of people would want to read. Then insert links to wherever I'd like readers to go.
The success of this was slow at first. It was just the initial problem of getting it into the hands of these resellers. Then I became a member of John Thornhill's newsletter website. He currently has over 10,000 readers mainly looking for ebooks to resell. So regularly now I send him a new ebook I've written with links to my websites.
And lately, I've started including other peoples adverts with links to their websites or auctions. Only legal stuff though.
So forget the search engines, write an ebook with resell rights.
