Search Engine Submission and Web Directories to Beware Of
By Ellis Jackson Jr
After you create your website the next logical step is to have it submitted to search engines and web directories. You all ready know about the big three like Google, Yahoo and MSN but there are other search engines and directories out their as well. Search engine submission services are all across the web ready to help you get your website submitted for you. But can you really trust them?
See, some companies claim that if you pay them a certain price that they will submit your website to tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of search engines and web directories. The only problem is that there are not that many to go around. So where do most of those submissions go to then. They go to all those Free-For-All(FFA) site directories that are all over the internet. You will only get seen for a brief moment until more enter the list pushing you down to the bottom. That makes it unless fast. Plus their is an added problem with this.
All those FFAs will spam you to death. Once your site is submitted you have just given them permission to contact you and believe me they will. Imagine having thousands of sites all feeding you junk mails after junk mail all day everyday. If you try to unsubscribe to their listing you will have to do it thousands of times and that would take forever. Then most are going to sell your email address to others who will them spam you some more. Your email address will become so loaded down with junk mail you will have to end up closing it down and creating a new one.
Another promise that the search engine submission services will tell you is all those FFAs links will help you with your link popularity. Well, that is plain wrong! Most of the popular search engines will not include those links in their ranking calculations because they are considered to be no value to the people who depend on their sites for search results. The only time people use those sites is to submit a website not to look for any search engine results. So don't waste you time using these web directories.
By the way, if you come across one of those search engine submission services across ads on the web then do a check on it on the search engines. If their own site can't be found on several different keyword searches you try then how are they going to help you get found. Only trust the ones on the first or second page of search results. They obviously know what they are doing.
Besides all that there are alot of free search engine submission and web directories out there that do a go job any way so don't waste your money. Just do a simple search and check to make sure they are not promising to list your sites in thousands of web directories. You can do this yourself. It is not that hard to do.
