We previously posted on Google’s plans to distribute original content using their content network, starting with a deal struck with Seth MacFarlane, creator of Family Guy to distribute a serious of short cartoon clips titles “Seth MacFarlane’s Cavalcade of Cartoon Comedy”.
ReadWriteWeb reports that the first series of these cartoons has now launched and can also be viewed on YouTube on a special channel. This series is sponsored by Burger King and a cartoonmascott has been created along with the dedicated “bk” channel on YouTube. Revenue will be split a few ways - between the production company, Google, Seth, and of course the publisher whose site the video is displayed and played on.
Advertisers will be able to choose between pre- and post-roll ads, “brought to you by” messages, or banners at the bottom of the screen. Burger King has opted for a 15-second pre-roll ad that is drawn by MacFarlane. These pre-rolls are similar to the opening sequences of the Simpsons and, thanks to MacFarlane’s signature humor, don’t feel as annoying as typical pre-roll ads do, even though the content of the ads has nothing to do with the actual cartoons.

A new co-branded website set to launch in 4 weeks time is the centerpiece of a newly created partnership between jobs site SEEK and Yahoo7 that also sees SEEK become the exclusive jobs partner for the Yahoo7 portal - locking out the competition from CareerOne. The joint venture is in answer to the new jobs ads and advice site eBay Jobs which represents a partnership between CareerOne and eBay.
The goal is to reach a broader audience with job opportunities. “Having job ads in front of both active and ‘passive’ jobseekers is the most successful way of communicating with potential employees in the current employment market.” says Justin Lister, Strategic Alliance Director at SEEK.

The second of the new Microsoft Ads about nothing, featuring Bill Gates and Jery Seinfeld is now up;
This one features the guys spending time living with an average family and realising how out of touch they are with the common man. It’s a bit better than the first one but still seems to be aimed at getting people talking about how pointless the ads are.

A new deal between Google and NBC Universal should give a big boost to Google’s foray into TV Ad serving that has been in beta testing for some time now. The multi-year deal, as reported on SearchEngineWatch blog, involves a portion of the Ads served on some of NBC’s cable television networks, however NBC maintains control over what is actually shown.
The multi-year deal will provide both a boost in ad inventory, and a boost in legitimacy in the eyes of many advertisers. Google will initially sell ads on six NBCU cable networks: Sci Fi, Oxygen, MSNBC, CNBC, Sleuth, and Chiller. More networks may be brought on as the partnership develops. NBCU also owns Bravo, USA, and several owned-and-operated local stations. It also owns the Telemundo Spanish-language network.
There will also be a focus on research and experiments in terms of how to best deliver the ads and measure success rates, etc as the tools are further developed. Some more info can be found on SearchEngineWatch blog.

A few days ago I posted that Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld were teaming up for a series of TV commercials for Microsoft. Now the first ad has been released to mixed reviews. By mixed reviews we mean a mix of different negatives mostly. Here is the ad itself;
Comments include;
- “makes no sense,” from Gizmodo
- “is about nothing.” from Seeking Alpha
- “While this ad doesn’t really tell us anything about Microsoft or its products, it does tell us that someday computers will be edible. So there’s that. Gates is kinda funny, too.” from CrunchGear
I think right now is too early to judge this series of ads. Yes this first one seems a bit pointless and “about nothing”, however it has sparked a lot of viral conversation and hundreds of thousands of views on the YouTube clip I embedded in this post alone - not to mention the numerous other posts of the ad on YouTube and other sites. So if the aim was a teaser to start people talking about it and awaiting the next ad inthe series - than it has worked a treat. It also made me want a churro.

A study recently released by DoubleClick Performics on children ages 10 to 14 who use the Internet reveals that the computer is a bigger draw than the TV set. The study found that 83 percent of Internet users in that age bracket spent an hour or more online a day, but only 68 percent spent the equivalent ammount of time watching television. The study, that found children would spend time online to research a purchase before making it, also stated that whilst 72 percent of children were members of one or more social networking sites, only 40 percent of them would ever bother to read blogs.

According to a post on Search Engine Roundtable their are rumours brewin’ that AdSense data will soon be integrated into Google Analytics for a site - saving AdSense publishers time and headaches when matching up data. Apparently the first post to crack the news has since been removed so this may well just be hearsay, but such a feature would be welcomed by many - granted that adequate care was taken not to disclose any information through Analytics’ industry benchmarking data sharing that should be kept private. This has been a long awaited feature by many AdSense publishers, who in the mean time have tried different bandaid solutions such as special javascript goals (that offered sketchy data at best), and as an AdSense publisher myself I hope that the plans will go ahead.

Jerry Seinfeld is set to help Microsoft shed the “frustrated old geekster” image that Apple has so cleverly branded Windows users with through it’s ongoing series of “I’m a MAC, and I’m a PC” commercials.
A new advertising campaign of some $300 million from the software giant will feature, among others, Jerry Seinfeld, in a series of adverts with Microsoft Chairman Bill Gates (as if he’s not an old geekster himself). The tagline for the series, which will apparently add $10 million to Seinfeld’s kitty, is reportedly something along the lines of “Windows, Not Walls.”
Below is a parody of the orignal series of Ads by Apple;
The original series itself has spawned many a viral video on youtube.
