Apple's Apples and Oranges
Apple recently announced their new line up of nifty gadgets!
These included:
- iPod touch with video calling over WiFi
- iPod Nano that can double as a watch
- Apple TV
- Ping – Apple’s new social media website
iPod Nano: This now has a built in FM tuner and can display photos. It features a touch screen for accessing all the features of the iPod. And it can also double as a watch! This however will run the battery dead in a new record time, so it isn’t recommended.
iPod Touch: Now with facelift! The big improvements are a front facing camera, for video calls over WiFi. You are not locked into any contract for this WiFi gadget either, so if you don’t want a phone, this might be the perfect solution for you.
A new update is due to be released within the week which will allow users to upload high-def video over WiFi. Also, when taking a photo, it will now save 3 separate images for a clearer picture – pretty cool if you ask me!
Apple TV: Even though the latest incarnation is about 1/3 of the size of the old box, it still seems like it will be another flop. It is basically an online renting system – interesting, but not revolutionary. Personally, I am waiting for Google TV!
Ping: Apple’s attempt at a social media platform has been described as Facebook meets Twitter on iTunes. I don’t know about everyone else, but every time I log onto iTunes I seem to either:
A) Lose all of my contacts
B) Lose all of my songs
C) Lose all of my apps
D) Have to restore my iPhone – AKA losing all of the above
So I am pretty sure I will be staying away from that one. But who knows … it might turn out to be great!
