April Fools Day – the Google Way
I hope everyone enjoyed a prank-filled April Fools day yesterday. I, for one, must admit that I was fooled by Google!
How, you ask?
Well this year Google continued its proud tradition of fooling its users by introducing CADIE – a super intelligent Panda, who also has similar interests to a young teenage girl.
So how did Google dupe its users.
Well for one, I found out about via Twitter and decided to check it out. I was directed to an image of a panda who introduced herself as CADIE. Her interests included rainbows, unicorns and creating websites.
I was a bit perplexed as to what exactly CADIE was supposed to do and how she would fit into the SEO world? Would she change the search engine marketing forever?
I delved a little deeper, and went to to CADIE’s homepage. I discovered that she was a “Cognitive Autoheuristic Distributed-Intelligence Entity. I had no idea what this meant, but I would be lying if I said my heart didnt start to race a little faster.
I then read through CADIES comments and she seemed intent on becoming on her own ‘panda’ and moving further away from the control of her creators – Google.
Cadie was developing her own personality and posts were becoming more formal and complex.
It was then that I realised that this seemed to weird to be true.
As I scrolled down the page – I realised that other users were posting comments asking what was going on! It was then that I realised this was a hoax.
I then remembered it was April fools day, and some further Googling exposed that the search engine had a history of fooling their users on this day.
I guess this highlights the power that Google has over the internet search world, that in a few hours of a new ‘tool’ being announced the online world goes into a spin.
This left me wondering, is there anything Google cant do? Watch this space
