It is reported that Facebook is approaching big record companies about creating a music service that would live within the Facebook platform, similar to that of what MySpace is rumoured to be looking into.
Moving into online media distribution would create a rather large competitor to that of iTunes as the Facebook platform continues to grow its members numbers.
All record companies involved (EMI, Universal, Sony BMG and more) have declined to comment on the matter. The reason that Facebook would be a gold mine for this distribution channel is because it targets the younger demographics who are key to the success of digital downloads.
