Introduction to Link Building – Part 3

Welcome to the third and possibly final chapter of my educational link building series. If you have read the first two posts, you might have come to the conclusion that many of these techniques are relatively simple. The final points that I want to make are slightly more advanced, and ultimately more time consuming, but at the end of the day they will also be more rewarding.

External websites and blogs

External websites and blogs can be an integral part of your link building campaign. The first step of this strategy is to create accounts on external websites, for example,, and Then, use the accounts to post articles and blog posts that talk about the same type of information featuresd on your website. Finally, you contextually link from the external domain(s) to your primary website.

This can be very powerful if you are able to get the PageRank of the offsite blog up. If, for example, you start a free blog on the domain, the PR of is 9.  Which is massive!  If you are able to point enough links or get a lot of traffic to your subdomain blog, you may be able to leech some of this PR goodness.  It is much easier to get a subdomain’s PR higher when the main domain is already high.

The other advantage of this is you have TOTAL control of the type of links, the amount of the links & and, most importantly, the anchor text and the location of the link.  The amount of posts that you make offsite is also important.  If you post to your WordPress subdomain blog, its authority will skyrocket – and guess where all the authority of this is pointing? Whereever you want it to!

Webpage templates

This is very time consuming, but can provide a lot of advantages.  Similar to a web developer branding their site (Site created by <web design company> you can create a tool or a theme for other users to download & use.  When they have, for example, you wordpress theme installed, you have a link.

The only problem with wordpress themes is generally this will be a very low, or new website with little to no authority.  Over time this should increase, but over time bloggers might become aware of this link and simply remove it from the template files.

Article Marketing / Public Relations Publications

Article marketing & PR publications are also a very good way to increase the number or links relatively quickly.  Article marketing is simply creating an article, then using a blogging network to distribute them.  Unless you are careful with this, you can manage to get a tone of duplicate content links – note to crash hot in Google’s eyes.

I currently have 1 client how has managed to dominate the first page through the use of PR sites.  Because of the authority of these sites, these sometimes (depending on how competitiveness of the keyword) shoot straight up through the ranks to the first page.  If you build some links to these, there is no reason why they aren’t able to sit right below your number 1 ranking – so you ultimately get 60% of the traffic – much better than 42% with minimal effort.

Social Media

We all know Facebook, Twitter and perhaps LinkedIn, these are great, but what a lot of people dont know is there are litterally hunderds of social media channels that can by utilised to raise the authority of websites through links.  By using these channels correctly websites – and traffic can quite litterally go through the roof!
